Woolwich ['wʊlɪtʃ] is a town in south-east London, England in the London Borough of Greenwich, on the south side of the River Thames, though the tiny exclave of North Woolwich (which is now part of the London Borough of Newham) is on the north side of the river.
It was home to the Woolwich Dockyard (founded in 1512), the Royal Arsenal (dating back to 1671), the Royal Military Academy (1741) and the Royal Horse Artillery (1793); it still retains an army base at the Royal Artillery Barracks, and the Royal Artillery Museum.
David Sheppard, former England cricket captain, was bishop of Woolwich from 1969 to 1975.

Woolwich is situated in the eastern part of Sagadahoc County, adjoining Lincoln County, whose towns of Westport and Wiscasset bound it on the east, and Dresden on the north.
Woolwich has four small villages, one, Montsweag post-office on the falls of the stream bearing that name; Nequosset railroad station on the outlet of Nequosset Pond; Woolwich at the lower ferry, postoffice and railroad station, and Woolwich village at the upper ferry, opposite the upper end of the city proper of Bath.
Woolwich has seven public schoolhouses, and the total school property has a value of $3,400.

The Woolwich Historical Society is housed in this farmhouse, circa 1810, located at the corner of Nequasset Road and Route One in Woolwich.
Woolwich was previously part of the community of Georgetown, but was incorporated in 1759.  The meeting house, built in 1757, that was required for incorporation is still standing, and can be opened for visits.
