The township is bounded by four Gloucester County townships - Logan Township on the north, East Greenwich to the northeast, and Harrison and South Harrison Townships to the east and southeast.
Woolwich Township was first incorporated on March 17, 1767 and takes its name from an English town on the Thames River famous for its naval school.
Today, Woolwich Township is home to a wide array of people from many ethnic and social backgrounds, with a diverse set of occupations reflecting today's 21st century service and light manufacturing economies.

Woolwich Township borders Logan Township, East Greenwich Township, Harrison Township, South Harrison Township.
In the township the population was spread out with 31.4% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 38.0% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 6.8% who were 65 years of age or older.
New Jersey's Second Congressional District, covering all of Atlantic County, Cape May County, Cumberland County and Salem County and portions of Burlington County, Camden County and Gloucester County, is represented by Frank LoBiondo (R, Vineland).

Some of those new public works duties are snow removal, white goods/metal pick-up, road repairs, and mowing sides of roads.

Washington Township officials are proposing to transfer development rights from approximately 7,000 acres of farmland to their designated Town Center.
The Township is currently undergoing several initiatives to preserve land, and plans to use TDR to bolster its planning efforts.
Woolwich will transfer credits from agricultural lands primarily to areas north of Swedesboro and possibly to areas south of the Weatherby residential development.

Elk Township was settled by Jacob and Leonard Fisler from Switzerland,who purchased land here in 1791.

An investigation of PCB contamination in a 3-story industrial structure was conducted prior to final negotiations with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) for an administrative consent order under Section 106 of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
The study consisted of collecting wipe samples throughout the building to identify the areal extent of PCB contamination and core samples in selective areas to determine the depth to which the PCB contamination had penetrated.
Non-contaminated buildings within the property were identified for the proposed operation and the potential effects of the new manufacturing facility on the site and vice versa were evaluated.

African-American hamlets were established in secluded areas on portions of Quaker land throughout western New Jersey.
One well-known Underground Railroad route was the Greenwich Line that began in the hamlet of Springtown, led 25 miles north to Small Gloucester, and continued north to Mount Holly, Burlington and Jersey City, New Jersey.
The communities along this route were ideal stations on the Underground Railroad as they were situated about 20 miles apart, surrounded by Quaker land which was often swampy or dense woods, and inhabited by many free African-Americans.
