As the husband learns of his wife's unfaithfulness, their relationship begins to disintegrate and their teenage son is caught in the middle.
The measure of this film's achievement is that it manages to take an extremely well-worn storyline and somehow inject it with new life, making you care about the characters and the pain and anger the situation generates.
The Bridge pulls this off partly because of its subtlety and attention to detail, both with regards to the depth of the characterisations and the local milieu in which the drama is played out.
