The Oz ending was definitely tacked on to increase sales (and because Baum had a contract and it was easier to convert an existing MS than to write a whole new one).
Oz could make a very interesting TV series, but I'm afraid that it would be too expensive for any of the studios to be very interested.

The Woozy is a about the size of a goat and appears to be made from building-block shaped parts covered with a smooth, tough dark blue skin with only three hairs on the very Tip of its tail.
Ojo uses this trait of the Woozy to burn a hole in the fence to free it to go with him and his companions on their mission to save Unc Nunkie and Margolotte.
