Worcester County (pronounced locally as either "Wis-ter" or "Wuhr-ster") is the easternmost county located in the U.S. state of Maryland.
Worcester County was granted home rule in 1976 under a state code.
In the county the population was spread out with 20.50% under the age of 18, 6.20% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 26.90% from 45 to 64, and 20.10% who were 65 years of age or older.

A student under the age of 18 years is eligible to enroll in the Worcester County Public School system without payment of tuition if the student is domiciled with one or both parents or legal guardians and they maintain their principal residence and place of domicile in Worcester County.
Tuition shall be the base tuition for Maryland residents plus the most recent amount of state aid per pupil for "current expenses." For the 1995-96 school year, the out-of-state tuition rate for full-time, regular education students was $3,014 (base amount of $2,692 plus state aid per pupil for current expenses of $322).
This policy shall not be applicable to students from adjoining Maryland counties whose eligibility to attend the Worcester County Schools is determined by mutual agreement between the Boards of Education of the counties involved.

Prior to 1865, the track of land now known as Ocean City in Maryland was patented as "Ladies Resort by the Sea." Tourism began when in 1869 Isaac Coffin built the first beach cottage that charged a fee for guests.
Ocean City is actually a barrier island, bordered on the East by the Atlantic Ocean (Worcester County is the only County in Maryland that borders the Atlantic) and on the West by the bay which was created when the great hurricane in 1933 carved out an inlet.
Almost everyone in Maryland and many in the surrounding states have Ocean City childhood memories of the Boardwalk, the Ferris Wheel, Thrasher's French Fries, body-surfing in the Atlantic Ocean, and building sand castles.

Worcester County Government understands that volunteers and the services they provide are a critical component in the quality of life in the county, so much so in fact that in 2001 the county established the Worcester County Volunteer Services program.
The idea was initiated by Worcester County Commissioner John E. “Sonny” Bloxom and Chief Administrative Officer Gerald Mason following their attendance at a National Association of Counties workshop on volunteer services in government settings.
The mission of volunteer services is three fold, as approved by the County Commissioners: to enhance the delivery of programs and services to the citizens of Worcester County; to encourage participation in local government; and to promote volunteerism by individuals and groups within Worcester County.

The committee to whom they were referred, reported that the subject being new, they were not prepared to decide, and recommending that the subject be deferred to the next General Assembly, which report was acceded to.

Such ground-based sparkling devices referenced in subsection (d)(1)A hereof, may only be sold in fully enclosed retail establishments upon the approval of the Worcester County Fire Marshal upon the filing of the appropriate application and payment of application fees as from time to time established by resolution of the County Commissioners.
