We Can Put an End to Word Attachments - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation (FSF)
Word attachments are annoying, but worse than that, they impede people from switching to free software.
For about a year, I've made a practice of responding to Word attachments with a polite message explaining why the practice of sending Word files is a bad thing, and asking the person to resend the material in a nonsecret format.
Sending Word attachments is bad for you, because a Word document normally includes hidden information about the author, enabling those in the know to pry into the author's activities (maybe yours).

 Microsoft Word Tips

Insert a future (or past) date in a Word document - It is a simple matter to insert the current date in a Word document, but calculated dates are not so straightforward.
Print to a specific printer - Word normally prints to the Windows default printer (which must be present in order to format the document correctly) but you can force Word to print to a specific printer (or printer driver - which would include Fax drivers) by means of a simple macro.

 Mail Merge FAQ
In the mail merge result document, each record's letter is created in its own section, so one can select each section, turn it into a sub-document, open the sub-document and save it as a separate file.
While Word's mail merge feature up through Word 2000 makes it easy for you to include a barcode on a label or envelope, no facility is provided for doing the same in the address of a form letter.
The situation is a bit less clear in Word 2002, since the Setup dialog boxes for label and envelope merges have been done away with for the more "intuitive" interface of the Word document window.

WD2000: General Questions and Answers About the Location of Word 2000 Templates
Because these templates are installed by Microsoft Word 2000, Word internally "knows" which tab each of these templates belongs with and automatically sorts and places the template on its correct tab, without the use of corresponding folders in the \Templates\1033 folder.
When you create a new template, the template is not saved with the installed Word templates; instead it is saved to a location that is common to the particular user.
NOTE: If you installed Microsoft Word to the same location as Microsoft Word 97 for Windows (you installed over the earlier version of Word), and you had templates and add-ins located in the previous Startup folder, Word 2000 still loads and uses those templates and add-ins.
