Word of Wisdom is the common title for a revelation that counsels Latter-day Saints on maintaining good health and is published as Doctrine and Covenants: section 89.
Called "a word of wisdom" in the introduction, the revelation was given to Joseph Smith at Kirtland, Ohio, on February 27, 1833, when the School of the Prophets was meeting at his home in the Whitney Store.
While none of these substances are mentioned specifically in the Word of Wisdom, the concept of the sanctity of the body and the deleterious effects of chemical substances on it have been emphasized as an extension of the Word of Wisdom.

Interpretation of the Word of Wisdom is partly institutional, dictated by the Church, and partly personal, and directed through personal revelation.
The Word of Wisdom is meant as a principle that was adapted for the "weakest of saints." I would surmise that this is why the prohibition against alcohol, tobacco, tea and coffee became a standard for judging temple worthiness.
I always enjoy word of wisdom threads that degenerate into caffiene bashing in light of the current medical data of it's beneficial uses as a enhancement of the delivery of certain medications among other things.
