Jobs in Magazine Publishing   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Working for a magazine means to work in an industry designed to transmit information and knowledge in an entertaining way.
Working for a trade magazine or a trade publisher may not be as glamorous as working for a consumer magazine with a wide, national circulation, but more opportunities exist in this sector of the industry than in consumer magazine publishing (Pattis 53).
Magazines need to be written, designed graphically, sold to the public or qualified audience, sold to advertisers, and physically produced and distributed.

 Tuesday
She is 23, a graduate student, and on the side she has created a magazine called simply Work.
Work is a classic sort of launch by someone of Lind's age, funded from her own shallow pockets, put together through the kindness and industry of friends, driven by a clear vision but no real business plan, and created from a very personal passion.
She got the idea for Work three years ago when she was searching newsstands for magazines and found only titles that she dismissed as glossy, bubble-headed publications trumpeting hedonism and celebrity.

 CMC Magazine: Computerization at Work
The shape of offices the way work is organized, the role of women in their operation, the career lines, and office technologies has been radically transformed in the last 100 years.
Women began to work in offices as typewriter operators and clerks, and were typically viewed as short- term job-holders, working between school and marriage during their early to mid-twenties.
However, people who work a substantial fraction of the time at home may be unavailable for meetings, may be less visible to their peers and (therefore) passed over for promotions, and may be difficult to supervise unless they work on a piece-rate system.

 Massage and Bodywork Magazine
Work starts with a head cradle, proceeds to the clavicle area to open lymph nodes, then toward the belly and down the side to the feet, and up the other side back to the clavicle — blending a combination of clearing lymphatic pathways and balancing body systems.
One of the principals of doing lymphatic work is to release the lymphatic dam in the clavicle area before you start working at the feet.
Massage work on the feet may be supplemented by hydrotherapies to enhance circulation and prevent leg ulcers.

HR Magazine - June 1997: Research Shows Benefits of Linking Work and Family
The study "Relinking Life and Work" shows what work-family proponents have believed for some time: If organizations took time to question the way work is done, taking into account employees' personal needs, solutions that substantially improve both work and life would evolve.
Because the new methods of working took into account some of their personal needs, employees felt more supported by their bosses, less stressed and more in control of their lives.
After working with the researchers, the managers realized that this controlling mind-set worked against the goal of team autonomy, and stifled innovation.

 Masonry Magazine: Work Platforms
The most common work platform for masonry is the pipe, brace and plank scaffold that can be traced, in form at least, to ancient Egypt.
This is especially true when the work height is over 30 feet and the span of work is in the hundreds of feet.
When completing tuckpointing and restoration work, using a suspended scaffold can be positive to both the masons working on it and to the contractor's bottom line.

The way women work | Magazine | The Observer
I liked my work well enough, but I'd grown to hate corporate life with its hierarchies of halfwits, its waste-of-time politics and its thought control (the remake of The Stepford Wives has missed a trick; today's oppressed, and the most likely candidates for 'reprogramming', aren't wives but corporate workers).
A growing number decide that the only way to work differently is to work for themselves: women start 35 per cent of new businesses in the UK, and almost all of them cite 'taking control of their life' as their reason.
A survey of young men by Emap magazines found that they feel trapped in their traditional masculine roles and look to women to 'release' them from it.
