Worker bee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A worker bee is a female honeybee which performs certain tasks in support of a bee hive.
In the summer 98% of the bees in a hive are worker bees.
Nevertheless, in the evolutionary context, the survival of the individual worker bee is not significant, since they do not directly contribute to the survival of the colony's genes and genetic transmission is achieved by other means.

Laying worker bee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A laying worker bee is a worker bee that lays unfertilized eggs usually in the absence of a queen bee.
Laying workers develop in the absence of a proper queen, whose pheromones prevent the developing of the worker's ovaries.
All methods of identifying a laying worker bee involve inspection, in which the beekeeper examines the brood pattern and type to identify if a healthy queen is present, or a potential laying worker.

Workers are the labor force of the colony, performing specialized duties based primarily on their age.
Although the pheromones produced by the queen are necessary to maintain the integrity of the hive, worker bees are thought to control the fate of the colony by their activities, such as governing where and how many eggs the queen lays, replacing a failing queen, or ensuring the production of drones.
Since the tip of her sting is heavily barbed, the worker bee normally loses her sting when she impales an enemy as she attacks in self-defense or in defense of the hive.

Worker Bee Will Buzz No More || The Mac Observer
Apple was able to find worker bee using subpoenas from a court ordering Yahoo to turn over any data trails it had on worker bee.
Although Apple named the worker in a court filing, News.com chose not to publish the name because Apple would not confirm whether he is the only employee with that name.
While what Apple is doing is certainly not 'cool' in the school yard sense, it is what routinely happens to corporations and individuals who violate the terms of any contract they have put their good name to in civil societies — they get their butts sued for breech of contract.

According to documents filed at California's Santa Clara County Superior Court, Apple reached a deal in April with Juan Gutierrez, a former temporary worker whom Apple alleged was responsible for the "worker bee" postings.
As part of the settlement, Apple and Gutierrez jointly agreed that he would turn over any confidential information he still had in his possession and refrain from sharing any more information he may have learned during his time at the Mac maker.
The low-profile settlement came in sharp contrast to the intense interest generated last August when Apple sued "worker bee" as an unnamed individual for allegedly misappropriating Apple's trade secrets.
