Works (Pink Floyd album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Works is a Pink Floyd compilation album released in 1983 by their former American label, Capitol Records, to compete with their then-current album The Final Cut.
The main interest for collectors is the track Embryo, which originally only appeared in January 1970 on a scarce Various Artists compilation album promoting Pink Floyd's UK label Harvest Records entitled Picnic - A Breath of Fresh Air, and a former concert staple in a greatly elongated form.
Also unique to Works, the tracks Brain Damage and Eclipse are presented as alternate versions, possibly stereo mixes from the master tapes of the quadraphonic edition The Dark Side of the Moon.

Pink Floyd had with their albums up to this point set themselves ever increasing standards to be matched or exceeded on subsequent albums.
Pink Floyd was always a solid band that maintained their classical sound and style even in the hardest moments when they lost key members like Syd Barret and Roger Waters or when all the rest of the progressive bands considered they had to start a radical change in order to survive.
The way I see it, this album’s main purpose on a conceptual level is to plant a seed of discomfort in the listener’s soul: now, it’s up to them to leave it as a mere complaint, or to take it to the next level and grow a plant of clever criticism in their heart.

Adrian's Album Reviews : Pink Floyd
I've an idea that Pink Floyd were lucky to be born in an era that allowed them to release an album like 'More', a low-profile soundtrack album, a way to find a direction, find themselves, without the pressure of having to make a heavy artistic statement, or anything like that.
Pink Floyd it seems had one foot in the past and one foot in an as yet uncertain and undetermined future.
Pinks fathers life was taken in the name of duty, and Pink builds a mental wall between himself and the rest of the world, every emotional trouble and stress becoming another 'brick' in Pinks mental wall of pain, disillusioned with stardom and fame.

 Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd don't have no 'vivacious' beginnings in them at all, and that's the band's main flaw (apart from the fact that Waters couldn't tell a good melody even when it hit him whack on the head, but that's another story).
So, Pink Floyd I was truly amazing and original band, and I don't care if they were drug-inspired, we don't need to take LSD in order to enjoy their music, they are all but overrated and truly deserve 4.5 or even 5.
Pink Floyd II is not the same, these guys never went into complex time signatures and free improvisation as other prog mavens did, and sometimes they aren,t even considered prog.

I consider Animals to be the third album in a trilogy of Pink Floyd’s works when they were at their peak, during the period of 1973-1977.
Pink Floyd is not known for its love songs, and this may be as close as they ever got to writing one.
Despite the fact that this album has gotten little attention from the public, it is an essential Pink Floyd album and if you are at all into them you should buy it.

In my opinion, no other album better exemplifies just how good psychedelic rock can be than "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn." Alternately intense and melodic, yet always seeming to transmit from a distant cosmic satellite, Pink Floyd's stellar debut is a consistently engaging musical experience.
In fact, even though Pink Floyd went on to be one of the world's biggest bands, I think that their debut is their best (narrowly beating out "The Wall").
It is true that Pink Floyd has released more true masterpieces than any other band, but this stands out as the most original and maybe even the strangest of them.

 Works by Pink Floyd CD
If all you know of Pink Floyd is the doomy FM rock of THE WALL or THE FINAL CUT, you owe it to yourself to take the early Floyd crash course that is WORKS.
This compilation focuses on the band's early work, beginning with the Syd Barrett-fronted psychedelic pop of their first album and progressing to their more free-form, space-rock excursions.
Works is the best of the best of type collections around for my Pink Floyd taste.
