World Brain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The essay "The Brain Organization of the Modern World" lays out Wells' vision for "...a sort of mental clearing house for the mind, a depot where knowledge and ideas are received, sorted, summarized, digested, clarified and compared." (p.
Wells had been involved with the socialist Fabian Society, the League of Nations, and the International PEN, and his intent for World Brain was no less than helping to solve what he termed the World Problem, i.e.
His concept of a "world brain" has more recently been revived by others in the guise of the global brain.

'World Brain' as a Metaphor for Holistic Higher Education
In this way, 'world brain' can be seen as generating a 'field of dreams of meaning'.
As we extend the concept of 'World Brain' to 'holistic education' and include the fourth and fifth generations of education we move towards the idea of 'World Mind' and beyond to what Sardello (1995) calls engagement with 'Word Soul' or Gaia where 'nature' is ever present and we locate our humanity within this enveloping notion.
In this way, it may be possible for the broad educational sector to contribute to the modern day emergence of HG Wells' 'World Brain' and thereby engage the potentials of our future Dream Society.

They were written "for gentlemen by gentlemen" in a world wherein universal education was unthought of, and where the institutions of modern democracy with universal suffrage, so necessary in many respects, so difficult and dangerous in their working, had still to appear.
As the core of such an institution would be a world synthesis of bibliography and documentation with the indexed archives of the world.
The Idea of a Permanent World Encyclopaedia (1937) was published by Wells not only in the Encyclopédie Française but also in the volume "World Brain", where he collected different papers and addresses concerning education and retrieval of information.

The World Brain or Global Brain trope also seems to be widely employed by those who speculate about the nature and impacts of the contemporary global communications infrastructure and its future development.
With the evolution of a World Brain-World Mind, mankind will be able to adapt in the face of all of the evolutionary hazards with which the contemporary world confronts him, especially those threats that have been created as a result of inventions and discoveries that especially improve the efficiency of war and transportation.
Technologically, Wells’s "World Brain" is remarkably under-imagined and has none of the flashes of imaginative genius that have given such life and power to his books of acknowledged science fiction (11).

The brain has somewhere in the vicinity of 100,000,000,000 -10,000,000,000,000 neurons, each one of which is itself a complex dynamical system.
Russell's book was my introduction to the global brain, but in fact, the concept of a global superorganism has been presented independently by a number of thinkers of different nationalities, over the past few decades.
View the global brain as a distributed system with many "subpersonalities." Then the question is not whether it is sane with respect to some outside culture, but whether it is sane WITH RESPECT TO ITSELF (a trickier thing to judge, no doubt).

 IEI's World Brain
Summary - Although the World Brain is not yet a reality, it is a long range goal of IEI to create a free-thinking entity, distributed across the Internet, that introspects upon human-originated content and then creates its own seminal thought and discoveries.
Thus all of the key cortical functions recognized by brain scientists, perception, learning, and internal imagery (a.k.a., imagination) have been developed at the IEI laboratory purely using artificial neural networks to emulate the biological neural networks of the human brain.
Of course the effectiveness of a system that integrates all of the IEI technologies into a creative synthetic intellect will be dependent upon the quality and the scale of the hardware used to implement our technology.

 brainworld
When about 6 months ago, the remains of the one-meter tall creatures were found in a cave in Indonesia, some researchers claimed these remains belong to Homo sapiens with microcephalia, and not a separate brand of human-like creatures, or Homo Floresiensis, as some scientists were quick to name it.
Now for the first time, the results of the detailed study of the creature’s brain by Dean Falk at Florida State University, has shown that it has advanced features that span the entire brain, suggesting that the original discoverers were right that it might be a new species of human.
Using a series of X-ray images to build up a 3-D computer model of the surface of the creature’s brain, researchers found enlarged frontal lobes, fat temporal lobes and evidence of lunate focus being pushed toward the back of the head, indicating the expansion of other parts of the brain.
