World Class Championship Wrestling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
World Class Championship Wrestling was a member of the National Wrestling Alliance and was originally known as Big Time Wrestling until 1982, when Adkisson requested the name of his federation to be changed.
WCCW was headquartered in Dallas, Texas and held wrestling events at the famed Sportatorium, located just south of Downtown Dallas, which was also a well-known boxing and wrestling arena as well as the one-time home to the famous Big D Jamboree.
World Class withdrew its membership from the NWA in 1986, shortly after the death of Gino Hernandez, and became known as the World Class Wrestling Association.

World Class Championship Wrestling was a Dallas, Texas based independent promotion (affiliated with the NWA) started by Fritz Von Eric (Jack Addkisson) in 1966 and run by him until the promotion folded in 1989.
Many wrestling fans would maintain that the WCCW, with its wild six-man tag matches and devastaating feuds, was the ECW of its day.
Here are some WCCW stills from my wrestling tapes of the early 1980's to the present along with other vintage photos I have collected.

SLAM! Sports - Wrestling - Bill Mercer: Still World Class
Once upon a time, it was easy for wrestling fans to forget -- caught up in the world of make-believe as they were -- that the announcers calling the action only considered pro wrestling a part-time gig; that they were real journalists by day and wrestling was for play.
In the case of veteran World Class announcer Bill Mercer of Dallas, he was front and center on November 22, 1963 when President Kennedy was assassinated.
He was THE voice of Dallas wrestling, starting in the '50s, working for Fritz Von Erich's promotion in the '70s, then going along for the ride as it expanded into the internationally-viewed World Class Championship Wrestling program.

Dave's World: Why Dave's World is obsessed with Mexican wrestling
It continued through World Class Championship Wrestling on Channel 25; the national cable wars with the WWF vs. the NWA and all the assorted promotions in the 1980s; ECW in the 1990s; and part two of the cable wars between the WWF and WCW in the 1990s.
And yet, far and away, the best wrestling program in America right now is this one out of Mexico City put on in a foreign language on a station that few cable systems carry and you basically need a dish to receive.
Fans understand that wrestling is not a legitimate athletic competition, but it clicks with the mainstream when viewers can sink their teeth into something that seems real -- like, people knew there was a legit business rivalry between the WWF and WCW, and tuned in every week to see where it would lead.
