Gymnasts from five countries competed in events which included men's horizontal bar, parallel bars, pommel horse, rings and vault.
The first international gymnastics competition outside of the Olympics was held in 1903 in Antwerp, Belgium, where gymnasts from Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands competed in what is now considered the first World Championships.
The first Trampoline World Championships was in 1964, and trampoline was first recognized as a sport in its own right in the United States in 1967.

The Bulgarian population showed such an interest in the world championships that the new sports palace soon proved to be too small -- all corridors, and even the stairs were crowded by sports fans wanting to see for themselves the world gymnastics elite and awarding their performances generous applause.
The Eighteenth World Gymnastics Championships was held at the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Varna in October 1974.

A strong delegation of British Gymnastics led by Martin Laws, is flying to Hanover, Germany, on Monday, 13 October 2003, to take part in the World Championships in Trampoline, Double -Mini Trampoline and Tumbling, which opens on Thursday, the 16, and concludes on Sunday 19 October, with the Individual Finals in all the three disciplines.
After the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Anaheim (USA) in August, and the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Budapest (HUN) in September, this will be last World Championships under the FIG, which serves also Olympic 2004 Qualifications (in Trampoline only, since Tumbling and DMT are not part of the Olympic programme.)
