The World Hockey Association 2 was an ice hockey league created at the instigation of the organizers of the proposed recreated World Hockey Association to serve as its development league.
The WHA2 operated in the 2003-2004 season alone, after which (due to a falling out with the parent organization) it was served a cease-and-desist from the WHA and ceased operations.
Its surviving teams merged with survivors of the South East Hockey League to form the Southern Professional Hockey League for the 2004-2005 season.

Peter Young, President, Hockey Operations of the World Hockey Association 2 today announced the approval of a new expansion franchise for the Central Alabama area for the inaugural 2003-04 WHA2 season.
WHA2 will initiate play this October in as many as 10 U.S. cities and act as a developmental league for the new World Hockey Association, which was formally announced on April14 in the Hockey News.
WHA2 officials plan to hold a formal press conference in the coming weeks to introduce the teams ownership group to the community.

Spencer, who contends hockey and financial success aren't necessarily mutually exclusive, proposed a three-year lease that called for $5,000 per game in rent and the team to pay for arena staffing (approximately $4,000-5,000 per game).
The World Hockey Association Founders Group e-mailed a counterproposal June 16, asking for, among other things, $6,500 in rent with staffing included.
