The World Scout Jamboree (Jamboree Scout Mondial in French) is a gathering of Scouts (ages 14-17) from all over the world.
World Scout Jamborees are held every four years and are organized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).
The World Scout Moot is a similar event, also organized by the WOSM, for Scouts aged 18-30.

The 4th World Jamboree was held in the Royal Forest of Godollo, 11 miles fro Budapest, and was attended by 25,000 Scouts from 34 nations.
The first World Jamboree to be held in Asia, it was attended by 12,000 Scouts from 69 countries including a carefully selected contingent of 105 from the UK which made the outward and homeward journey by air.
This World Jamboree was cancelled near the end of 1978, due to the Ayatollah usurping power from the Shah of Iran, and thus destabilising the political position in Iran.

This was the largest Jamboree up until that time and was attended by 10,000 Scouts from all over the world.
They had set up concession stands on their front lawns selling lemonade, fresh fruit from the region, and hot-dogs to the boys who roamed somewhat aimlessly throughout the downtown area All along the main street the Scouts were approached by children asking for their autographs and asking for souvenir badges.
It was only 10 years since the end of World War II and every country in attendance wanted to show the world has much it had progressed since 1945.

The first realization of the extent of the Jamboree camp came as the column left the road and proceeded across field, passing section after section lined off with stakes and ropes.
On that day the Chief Scout of the World was presented on behalf of Boy Scouts every where with a Rolls-Royce motor car with caravan trailer, an oil painting, a cheque for £2,750 and an illuminated address.
It was a wonderful demonstration of the way in which the Jamboree had brought the nations together, for boys of every creed, colour and clime marched arm in am, with hats on staves cheering wildly, as they swung past the rostrum from which the Chief took the salute.

The UK Units will be departing from the Jamboree site for home hospitality in Taiwan, Japan and Korea where the temperature will drop quite dramatically; and also to Malaysia and Singapore where the weather is about the same as it is here in Thailand.
