Professor of Chemistry was presented with the 2003 World Technology Award for Materials on June 25 in San Francisco.
Lieber is a pioneer in nanotechnology, a relatively new field in which atoms and molecules are nudged together to create wires and other devices with promising utility in fields from new types of computers and electronics to disease detection and drug delivery.

The World Technology Network (WTN) is a global virtual think tank whose members are focused on the business or science of bringing important emerging technologies into reality.
Apart from the small number of founding members they are made up of World Technology Award Nominators (members for one year and the re-evaluated) and World Technology Award Finalists/Winners who automatically become WTN fellows - members for life.
This was formally announced by Peter Diamandis of the X Prize Foundation and James P. Clark of the World Technology Network on October 7th at the WTN's 2004 World Technology Summit and Awards.
