World Tourism Organization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The World Tourism Organization originated as the International Congress of Official Tourist Traffic Associations, which was set up in 1925 in The Hague.
A resolution to the same effect was passed in December 1969 by the UN General Assembly, which laid out the central role the transformed IUOTO should play in the field of world tourism in cooperation with the existing bodies within the UN.
Following this resolution, the WTO's statutes were ratified in 1974 by the states whose official tourist organizations had been members of IUOTO.
