The name was changed in the spring of 2002 as it lost a court case with the World Wildlife Fund over the name WWF and the usage of it (for example, wwf.com (http://www.wwf.com)).
The WWWF rejoined the NWA in 1971 and their world title was dropped to the status of a regional title.
The WWWF became the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in mid-1979.

Rogers lost the NWA World Championship to Lou Thesz in a one-fall match in Toronto, Ontario on January 24, 1963, which led to Mondt, McMahon and the CWC leaving the NWA in protest, creating the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) in the process.

His record-setting 7-year WWWF reign was ended on January 17, 1971 by "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff, who used his infamous top-rope Russian Knee Drop to get the pin over the man that nobody could beat.
