World gazetteers usually consist of an alphabetical listing of countries, with pertinent statistics for each one, with some gazetteers listing information on cities of varying sizes.
Gazetteers are not limited to describing political features; they can also describe any geographical features such as mountains, waterways, or roads.

Included in the gazetteer are entries for about 165,000 place names, ranging from villages, towns, and cities to countries, regions and continents as well as geographical features such as volcanoes, bays, islands, and mountain ranges.
The poor quality of the data in the gazetteer is also evident in the Help screens, for they include some typographical errors that easily could have been eliminated with basic editing.
This gazetteer has the potential to be a great reference work; unfortunately, the abundance of significant errors precludes it from achieving this potential.

After four years of research, culminating in 33,000 new entries and a revision of the rest, this ultimate reference of the places of the world is up to date, representing the world as it is at the end of the 20th century.
