  Worsborough Branch - Dearne and Dove Canal
The Worsborough Branch was the first part of the Dearne and Dove Canal to close, in 1906, following constant problems with subsidence.
Worsborough is the historic spelling in use when the canal was active.
The first section of the Worsborough Branch, leading south from the top of Stairfoot Locks, is dry and heavily overgrown.

 Barnsley Building Society Brass Band - History
Originally the band was formed in 1906 as the Birdwell and District Subscription Prize Band and became known as the Birdwell Brass Band.
One famous name to come from the band was Jack Jackson who after being taught by his father who was conductor of the band, then went into Dance Bands and will be remembered as one of radio and television’s original disc jockeys of the 1950’s.
During the 1940s the bandmaster was Mr Albert Smith who came from Worsborough Bridge and the secretary was Mr Sherwood.
