  Barnsley Family History Society - Worsbrough Free Grammar School
On the 12th of June 1560 William Elmhirst and William Brodsworth came to the manor court and begged to be admitted tenants of a piece of waste lying to the north of the church.
Worsbrough Free Grammar School as a Grammar School, no longer exists but still lives on as Worsbrough Church of England (Aided) Junior and Infant School, which is its direct descendant.
He was born in Worsbrough Dale in 1616 and later became Master of University College, Oxford, a college frequented by a number of Worsbrough scholars.

Worsbrough Country Park covers approximately 200 acres in the valley of the River Dove.
Worsbrough Reservoir was one of the header lakes built at one of the heads of navigation in order to supply the Dearne and Dove Canal.
The Worsbrough section of the canal was closed to traffic in 1906, the reservoir and stream being retained as a feeder.

The 2 mile Worsbrough Branch had no locks and a much larger reservoir to feed the summit.
To provide water for this traffic, the Worsbrough reservoir depth was increased in 1826 by 42 feet and its acreage from 20 to 42.
Abandonment began in 1906 with the closure of the Worsbrough Branch to navigation, although water was still fed to the summit.

The road from Worsbrough village to the Bridge, which today divides the two woods, was formerly the main road to Birdwell.
