The Worshipful Company of Curriers is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London.
The organisation become a Company under a Royal Charter of incorporation in 1605.
The Company now exists, as do most other Livery Companies, as a charitable institution, the traditional process of currying having been made more or less obsolete by technological advances.

Livery Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 107 Livery Companies are trade associations based in the City of London, each known as the Worshipful Company of the relevant trade or profession.
The Livery Companies originally developed as guilds and were responsible for the regulation of their trades, controlling, for instance, wages and labour conditions.
Among the earliest companies known to have possessed halls were the Merchant Taylors and Goldsmiths in the 14th century, but neither theirs nor other companies' original halls remain; the few survivors of the Great Fire were destroyed, along with many reconstructed ones, during the Blitz.

 The Head Heeb: Journeyman conspirators
The curriers may have been pioneers, but the best-organized workers in 18th-century London were the tailors and the printers.
A 1765 prosecution of journeyman tailors and a 1772 case involving curriers both resulted in acquittal; in the tailors' case, the defendants were acquitted because no evidence was presented in court.
The curriers may also have won acquittal in this way, or they might simply have found a sympathetic jury; 18th-century jurors were often drawn from the lower middle class and didn't always see eye to eye with the wealthy and powerful.

The Worshipful Company of Curriers - History
By around 1580, the guild of Curriers was recognised as a Livery Company of the City of London, and a grant of arms made in 1583, but it was not until 1605 that King James I granted the Curriers their first Charter of Incorporation as 29th in the order of precedence.
It moved in with its long-standing trade and Livery partner, the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers, with whom it still enjoys a close relationship.
The trade of the Currier, that of dressing and preparing leather as a workable material for other craftsmen to use to create leather goods, is now largely incorporated as part of the process of tanning, but its origins and techniques are explained in an article, "The Art and Mysterie of the Currier"

Today’s livery companies are not picturesque leftovers of history but living institutions, whose activities have been commended by successive Royal Commissions and hose liverymen assemble in Common Hall to carry out important functions in the elections of the City’s government and certain of its officers.
Livery companies still maintain the structure of organization shown, and the tradition is adopted by the new guilds.
In certain companies the officers are known by different titles, for example, the Fishmongers have a Prime Warden instead of a Master, and the number of wardens may vary between two and four according to the size of the company.

From the 18th century many companies began a long drawn-out transition from their key role as regulative industrial bodies to associations mainly concerned with the management of their often valuable properties and the sponsorship of charitable, educational or 'clubbable' activities.
Whilst livery companies are based in the City their membership is widely drawn and in many cases their charitable support flows out far further than the City and Greater London.
Not least because the new companies are helping to transform their image into more active, contemporary organisations (which include women) of people at the top of their field.
