The Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London.
The Company was incorporated by a Royal Charter in 1628; the City granted it the status of a Livery Company in 1792.
As cards have evolved from objects made by craftsmen to mechanically produced goods, the Company has lost its role as a trade association for card makers.

The arms of the "Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards" one of the early Trade Guilds in the City of London.
Originally founded as the "Mistery of Makers of Playing Cards of the City of London" by a royal Charter granted by King Charles I in 1628.
Playing cards were made out of sheet of good heavy paper, stiffened with paste and laminated in a press (figure 7 in the background).
