Livery Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 106 Livery Companies are trade associations based in the City of London, each known as the Worshipful Company of the relevant trade or profession.
The Livery Companies originally developed as guilds and were responsible for the regulation of their trades, controlling, for instance, wages and labour conditions.
Among the earliest companies known to have possessed halls were the Merchant Taylors and Goldsmiths in the 14th century, but neither theirs nor other companies' original halls remain; the few survivors of the Great Fire were destroyed, along with many reconstructed ones, during the Blitz.

The Company determined the price at which tallow candles could be sold and acted as the regulator of the trade, firstly within, and later outside the boundaries of the City of London.
Tallow candles were made from rendered animal fat, the finest and whitest tallow coming from the first skimming.
Subsequent skims produced tallow with a yellowish tinge and the coarsest was obtained from squeezing the remaining animal bones and flesh in presses.

 John Bracy, Tallow Chandler
The earliest benefactor of the Tallow Chandlers Company of London was one John Bracy, who, by means of his last will, left his small estate to the company and enabled them "to play their part with dignity and usefulness through so many generations."
As a matter of fact, in the Act of Edward VI this property is not included in the schedule of lands in respect of which the Company was compelled to compound with the Crown.
His widow Agnes, upon whose decease the Company’s reversion was expectant, died, we may presume, in 1477, in which year the will was brought to the Husting Court to be enrolled.
