Adelaide Bagley Daniels was active throughout her life in benevolent organizations and served on the board of directors at Rex Hospital in Raleigh in the 1920s and 1930s.
Worth Bagley received his early education at Centennial Graded School and the Raleigh Male Academy until, at age 15, he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
Most of the letters were written either by Worth Bagley while he was a student at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., and an officer in the Navy, 1889-1898, or by W. Bagley, Jr., while he served in Havana, Cuba, as a newspaper correspondent, 1899.

Bagley transited the canal on the 24th, stopped at Havana, Cuba, between 28 September and 2 October, and ended her shakedown cruise at Norfolk on the 4th.
Bagley turned sharply to the left to bring the starboard torpedo tubes to bear on the Japanese warships looming out of the darkness but, as the "fish" were not armed in time, she continued her turn and fired four torpedoes to the northwest from number two port mount.

The third USS Bagley, DD 386, was launched 3 September 1936 by Norfolk Navy Yard: sponsored by Miss Bella Worth Bagley, sister of Ensign Bagley; commissioned 12 June 1937, Lieutenant Commander F. Morris in command; and reported to the Atlantic Squadron.
Born at Raleigh, North Carolina, 6 April 1874, Bagley was graduated from the Naval Academy in 1895.
Bagley, who had been helping to direct the warship's maneuvers by carrying instructions from the deck to the base of the engine room ladder.

Worth was a member of the North Carolina state legislature in 1830, 1831, 1840, 1858, and 1860-1863, and was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress in 1841 and 1845.
Jonathan Worth's brothers included B. Worth, who was a businessman in New York; Daniel; J. M.; and Joseph A. He had a nephew, David Worth Coffin, who in 1866, is known to have lived in Indianapolis.
Letters to and from members of the Worth family and their connections run from 1853 to 1899 and include letters from Worth's son, daughters, and sons-in-law, as well as Worth's brothers, nephews, and cousins.
