Worth1000 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Worth1000 opened on January 1, 2002 and hosts over 220,000 unique images made in theme contests such as "Rejected Transformers", "Invisible World", and "Stupid Protests".
Worth1000 is one of the most popular sites of its kind and has served more than 5.5 million distinct visitors in September 2004.
Worth1000 and their members have created two books on image manipulation: when pancakes go bad and I've got a human in my throat.

They are hidden by the Worth1000 logo that is placed on the "regular view" versions of each entry, and are only visible to those people who choose to view the full-sized version of each entry.
NOTE: Since the contests at Worth1000 are, more than anything else, about quality, many of the images in my gallery are rather large (both in dimension and file size) in order to display the details.
Sometimes it was a matter of too many similarly themed entries in a single contest, sometimes it was a matter of people not appreciating my sense of humor, but most of the time it was simply because, well, the images were crap....

Hatch's Hit List #8 - Worth1000 Photoshop Contests: Corante > The Importance of... >   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Worth1000 is "a daily image manipulation contest site." Basically, it is a website for competitive photoshopping.
The website does have a copyright disclaimer and 17 USC 512-like notice and takedown procedure, but warnings will carry very little weight under the INDUCE Act else common P2P systems would not be affected by the law (which is the ostensible goal).
There are some exceptions where copyrighted images can be used legally, such as for parody purposes and even then, only in such a way that the image will not compete with the present or future commercial interests of the original image or derivative works of the image.

Avi Muchnick Interview - When Pancakes Go Bad | PhotoshopSupport.com
The latest addition to the site has been something known as corporate contests, where we allow companies to come to us to have their logos designed (or other graphic work done) as part of a competition.
As far as future plans, I'm currently working on spinning off the merchandise area of Worth1000 into it's own site, to allow artists to sell their work on merchandise quickly and easily.
Luckily Megan stumbled across Worth1000 and had the foresight to see that our access to wonderful artists would go hand in hand with her idea for a funny Photoshop tutorial book.

A few days ago a new Worth1000 book was released — "I've Got a Human in my Throat: Create MORE Optical Delusions with Adobe Photoshop" —; and we sent site owner Avi Muchnick some questions about it.

All in all I guess if you want less detailed tutorials than the ones for free on the Worth1000 website and are more than 18 years old...
I purchased this book (used - thankfully!) because I enjoy the Worth1000 site and thought it might give me some help learning to manipulate images but as others stated, there are no files to actually work with other than the already finished images on the site which is useless.
As a matter of fact, the tutorial section that is FREE on Worth1000 is much more informative than this book.

Perhaps the McDonald's Video Game derives some of its punch from the same parodic intent that makes the fake Fast Food Manager funny, but the game itself reflects the more complex reality that underlies the supposed banality driving the humor of the parody.
Conversely, a game about the current conflict in Lebanon might be able to convey some of the complexities of the situation, but it would have to get over the parodic or satirical assumption derived from the kind of humor accomplished in this Worth1000 contest.
In other words, the novelty of the juxtaposition of a game with something so serious would probably work against the potential effect of such a game.

I was VERY skeptical about buying this one because I was so dissapointed with the last book Worth1000 put out (ISBN: 1592005241)....So I finally checked it out at our local book store and was surprised to find out they improved A LOT from the last one.
For one, they actually include the source images, then they even tell you how to create them...instead of the last book where they SHOW you lots but only let you in on a few of the more boring techniques....LOL
