One of those anxious to know about the castle's future is neighbour Margaret Rigg, who has been a National Trust tenant at the neighbouring Dower House for nearly 17 years, operating a bed-and-breakfast and holiday accommodation.
After taking calls from neighbours, who were concerned about the castle's future, she sent out a letter to residents under the auspices of the Cumbrian Association of National Trust Tenants.
Her letter said: "One of the possible uses of Wray Castle under consideration at this time is as a school for up to 20 boys aged 11 to 16 years.

Wray Castle stands above the western shore of Lake Windermere, these days in Cumbria but traditionally in Lancashire.
In 1882 Beatrix Potter rented the Castle for the summer and together with the local vicar, Canon Rawlnsey, became one of the founders of the National Trust inspired by both Wray Castle and its beautiful Lakeland setting.
These days Wray is a training college for various organisations and although the building isn't open to the public the grounds are, offering some superb views down Lake Windermere.

He was District Commissioner and Camp Adviser of the Scouts for many years and, through his influence, Wray Castle became one of the earliest official Scout Camp sites.
There is no longer a Post Office or shop in High Wray and the village School, which closed in 1931, is now High Wray Village Hall; Wray Castle is owned by the National Trust and is used as a privately run Administrative Training Collage, although the grounds are open to the public.

The family of three continued to vacation in the area, although not always at Wray Castle, for the next 21 years.
