Wright County is a county located in the state of Missouri.
The county was organized in 1841 and named for Silas Wright, congressman, U.S. senator and governor of New York.
In the county the population is spread out with 27.20% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 25.30% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 16.50% who are 65 years of age or older.

He married c1840 (probably in Knox County, Tennessee) Amanda J "Mandy" Beach who was born March 27, 1826 in North Carolina to Benjamin and Margaret Harper Beach and who died in Hazelwood Township, Webster County, Missouri, November 21, 1910.
According to a listing of Union Soldier of Wright County, Missouri, John and his brothers served in the enrolled Missouri militia, were born in Missouri and are buried in the Mt Zion Cemetery.

County Court records for Wright County were destroyed in an 1896 fire, and there are few newspaper records.
A photograph in the Pulaski County Historical Society is identified as Wright County's courthouse of 1841-1845, but this may be a home in which early courts met.
Built of soft brick, the courthouse plagued the county with constant need of repair until it was demolished in January 1964 as the new courthouse was being constructed.

Hartville, the county seat, situated near the center of the county, on Wood's Fork of the Gasconade, twenty-five miles east southeast of Marshfield, was almost obliterated by the Civil War, but is being rapidly rebuilt by a new population, (1874).
Mountain Grove, formerly named Hickory Springs, is twenty miles southeast of Hartville, on the Gulf Railroad, in the southeastern part of Wright County, three-fourths of a mile from the line of Texas County, eight miles from Howell, and five miles from Douglas.
A trading-post, in Texas County, which stood a few miles east of the present Mountain Grove, After the Civil War the site was moved across the county line into Wright County and called Mountain Grove.

The proof that she was the daughter of Brittain Cross is an entry in the minutes of the Anderson County Court (pp.147-149, Feb 1845 - Mar 1850) where she was described as a minor Legatee of Brittain Cross, and where Alfred Cross was assigned as her guardian.
Brittain Cross had died fairly young (in 1826), and Syntha Cross owned 160 acres in Anderson County in her own name, but as a minor with Alfred Cross as guardian (Anderson County taxes: Sinthy Cross in 1838, Syntha Cross in 1839, Cyntha Cross in 1840, and Cyntha Cross by Alfred Cross in 1841).
Her son William's age of 9 and birth place of Missouri suggests that the family moved to Missouri shortly after James and Syntha were married in 1840.
