 Harry Houdini Flies Near Melbourne
Houdini was in Melbourne for his Melbourne Season and, though performing in the City, had also been travelling to and from the City and Diggers Rest by motor car.
The other housed a Wilbur Wright aeroplane which had been recently imported into Australia and “placed in charge of” a Mr.
One has the feeling that the Wilbur Wright machine was part of some separate syndicate and that there was some friendly collaboration between Houdini and the persons involved in it.

 Spaced Out - Travel
Wright closes his charter plane business during summer and escapes the heat by flying home to Melbourne.
He talks at a breathless pace for the entire tour, the highlight of which is the grand old sandstone railway station, the terminus for the Great Northern Railway from 1889 to 1927, now a museum.
This town should have collapsed into the dirt in 1980, when the Government shifted the Ghan railway line 200 kilometres west, leaving the crumbling station buildings and sleepers behind.

Upper Ferntree Gully to Gembrook Railway
It is easy to find the location of all the stations along this line as the line is in the Melbourne metropolitan area.
Currently the restored railway operates as a three section Staff and Ticket System with Belgrave, Menzies Creek, Lakeside and Gembrook as permanent staff stations.
As these early 1940's time-tables show the Victorian Railways were running busses in competition with their own trains.

Ned Kelly: Australian Ironoutlaw Inner History
On Saturday, June 27 1880, the Kelly Gang captured the railway station at Glenrowan, but not before the news of the Sherritt shooting had been wired south.
Stationed along with three fellow officers, Senior Constable Robert Graham was charged with bringing order to a highly volitile situation.
The Glenmore strength was increased meanwhile, and a new station opened in Kiewa valley to block the escape of stolen stock to Gippsland.

 Your Journey
Between 1958 and 1962, a new station and yard was constructed entirely by volunteers, using parts of the old Belgrave station which was approximately where the Melbourne end of the broad-gauge platform is now.
When opened in 1904 (four years after the opening of the line) it was named Selby after an early landowner, the district taking its name from the station.
Also named after the nearby Nobelius estates, this little station was originally situated in a magnificent garden setting that the Society hopes eventually to restore.

 How they fell
There were about two hundred people at the railway station when this plan was conceived, some of them having been passengers by the ordinary midday through train from Melbourne, who had elected to make a break in the journey at Glenrowan when they discovered the startling developments that were there taking place.
Up to this point two of the outlaws have been accounted for—Ned Kelly lying bound at the railway station, and Byrne lying dead in the hotel.
They were handcuffed and sent up to the railway station for safe keeping.

The present platforms at Porte des Lilas are not on the originally-planned alignment, and the disused station for trains to and from Pré-Saint-Gervais can be glimpsed as one departs from Porte des Lilas south-west to Gambetta, or from the platforms at Saint-Fargeau, the first station south, by looking straight ahead to the north.
Mossley West new station is c.400m west of Mossley old station, with a single platform on the south side of the line serving a new development for Newtownabbey Borough Council who are relocating to the adjacent old Mossley mill.
A Railway Works Order was in preparation with a view to construction starting in 1999, but it seems that the planning permission already granted by the county council may have been challenged, causing potential disruption and delay for both the rail and the highway schemes.

 Romper Stomper
The following afternoon, while playing pinball at the Railway Hotel, two of the skinheads notice a family of Vietnamese talking to the pub's owner, closing out a business transaction where they will assume ownership of the bar, and transform it into a restaurant.
Martin slowly caresses her face, his hand dragging down her shoulder, eventually landing on a breast, to which she freezes up and replies, "Can't you just be nice to me?" He replies that she's always wanted it before, to which Gabe immediately slaps him, and he strikes back with a slap of his own.
They throw a big party in their honor, during which both Davey and Hando's complete attention is on Gabe, and after Hando, once again, sweeps Gabe off into his room, the dismayed Davey excuses himself from the festivities, and proceeds to take his frustrations out on a punching bag.

Then we made the mistake of going down to the railway station to look at historic mining trains.
One of the more isolated petrol stations 60 kilometres along the highway, at Bloomsbury, is also considerably cheaper than at home or at Mackay, so we refueled when we spotted that.

Melbourne's Trams To The Millennium Part Two
Tickets would be purchased on trams and buses as well as railway stations and retail shops, but, except on buses, the tickets would be sold by a machine, and conductors would cease to exist.
The idea was to dispense with conductors on modern trams and force the public to buy "scratch" tickets from retail outlets, with the current tickets only being available at railway stations.
On the Port Melbourne line, every station was demolished and replaced by low platforms except Port Melbourne, which had its platform shortened at the City end, a low platform being installed.

Proteaceae Floral Crops: Cultivar Development and Underexploited Uses
Another form of leaf browning results from fumigation with methyl bromide (Coetzee and Wright 1991), which imported shipments are often subjected to if insects are present.
Pulsing cut Protea stems in a 1% sucrose solution, or a floral preservative solution, before packing and especially post-unpacking is an effective treatment to delay the onset of leaf blackening (Brink and de Swardt 1986; Paull 1988).
Collection and introduction of natural interspecific hybrids has occurred (Brits and van den Berg 1991), and controlled crosses were made between species in efforts to produce later flowering, improve color and shape, and to introduce tolerance to Phytophthora cinniamomi (Brits 1992a).
