WriteNow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WriteNow began life in a building on the Apple campus away from the building in which the Macintosh and MacWrite were being developed.
WriteNow was also ported to NeXT and bundled with NeXT stations from the original version up to 1991.
Due to concern of third-party publishers such as WordPerfect that had to compete with a free word processor, WriteNow for NeXT was briefly spun-out to a start-up company and TextEdit, which was more or less a stripped-down version of WriteNow, was bundled instead.
