The UNDAC team working in Poland since 19 July 1997 has sent its second mission report with updates on the situation in the flood-affected areas and the needs for international assistance to cope with the disaster.
Rainfall on western and south-western Poland continued over the weekend, and led to the additional flooding of 23,000 hectares in the Legnica voivodship, 2,000 hectares in the Zielona Gora voivodship and 15,000 hectares in the Walbrych region.
As of 21 July 1997, flood alert continued in 12 voivodships where 230,000 hectares of land and 245 towns and villages were still covered by water.
