The early region alone is sufficient to transform established primary rodent cell lines [17] and in concert with telomerase and ras transforms primary human cells [18].
The WU virus early region was scanned for splicing motifs similar to known murine and hamster polyomavirus splice donor and acceptor sequences, but no obvious combination of splice sites was detected that would yield a middle T antigen sequence in the size range of known middle T antigens.
At all loci, WU virus was most similar to KI virus, but the degree of divergence between WU and KI was greater than the divergence between SV40 and BK, indicating that WU and KI are clearly distinct viruses (Figure 2).

China's semi industry will rely on local consumption
Wu argued that a certain percentage of semiconductor manufacturing would continue to be based in the U.S. in Europe because, he said, some percentage of chip making will always be local.
Wu pointed out that China's evolution as a semiconductor manufacturing power is completely different than any before it because China is moving directly to a fabless-foundry model, while the U.S., Japan, Taiwan and Korea could rely on the infrastructure created by integrated device manufacturers (IDMs).
Wu said that he could trace the roots of fabless semiconductor companies back to IDMs in every other region of the world, and that predictions of the industry's growth in China underestimate the value of relying on the provided infrastructure.

Localization of a putative tumor suppressor gene in the sub-telomeric region of chromosome 8p
Several regions of chromsome arm 8p are frequently deleted in a variety of human malignancies including those of the prostate, head and neck, lung, and colon, suggesting that there is more than one tumor suppressor gene on this chromosome arm.
The apparent retention of heterozygosity at loci within an otherwise deleted region is frequently taken as indicative of the masking of homozygous deletions by small amounts of contaminating normal tissue DNA (Cairns et al., 1994).
However, the placement of the 8p23 minimally deleted region so close to the end of the chromosome raises the question of whether these deletions are actually the result of the loss of chromosomal sequences following telomere erosion.
