In summer of 1997 the band finally got a deal with a German record label, who (for some reason) were convinced that the band played gothic/epic metal.
After only a couple of weeks the band were offered deals with different record companies all over the World, and in the beginning of 1998 Wuthering Heights started up the co-operation with the American progressive rock/metal label The Laser's Edge/Sensory.
During the fall of 2000 problems occurred in the Wuthering Heights camp, which resulted in drummer Morten and bassist Kasper leaving the band.

I'm happy with what Kristian has done for the band, but he was hired on an album to album basis, and on this new one, he simply wasn't the first choice.
We thought he could do wonders with the Wuthering material, so we got in touch with him, and luckily he was interested.
I have been a fan of that band for many years, and I have always thought that I could do something with this particular song.

In the case of 'Wuthering Heights', she was imitating this witch, the mad lady from the Yorkshire Moors, and she was very theatrical about it.
David Paton, who was the bass man on the other songs, overdubbed 12-string acoustic guitar on 'Wuthering Heights', and after Ian Bairnson redid his six-string part, Jon Kelly double-tracked them and tweaked the Varispeed on the machine to provide some breadth together with a chorusy feel.
These comprised the section that was used on 'Wuthering Heights', whereas a smaller section was used for some of the other songs — the parts for a couple of numbers were recorded in each three-hour session.

The "Wuthering Heights" two-part instrumental which follows is not steeped in pyrotechnics, because that's never really the case with Genesis, but establish a mood and keep it going.
During this time, guitarist Steve Hackett thought his input as a writer was being deferred by the other band members for Tony Banks' offerings, and especially coming off the heels of Voyage of the Acolyte, the lure of a potential solo career would soon prove too strong to deny.
The big blow seemed initially to be the loss of Gabriel which the band triumphantly overcame, but ultimately, hindsight seems to show that Hackett's departure really changed the band's sound most of all.

It won't be exaggerated to say that WUTHERING HEIGHTS is currently one of Denmark's main hopes in Prog-Metal.
This new Wuthering Heights release, "The Shadow Cabinet", is their fourth studio album, following "Within" (1999), "To Travel for Evermore" (2001) and "Far From the Madding Crown" (2003).
Anyway, along with their countrymen Secret Oyster's "Sea Son", this is one of the two strongest studio albums that I have reviewed for this update.

Indeed the Danish act does a great job performing the musical material, it's well put together, it's very much in the style of power metal and speed metal, and surely the musicians are skilled.
Yes, the band does play with different metres and feelings in the tracks, but it's not good enough.

 Metal Perspective - Wuthering Heights - The Shadow Cabinet
Because we are bombarded by ads for the new super album of the x or the z "unique" power metal band (that all by chance is supported by a major label) and we miss small diamonds like this.
Unfortunately I didn’t had the chance to listen to any of their previous three albums (in the first two the "doomy" Kristian Andren was providing his services), but "The Shadow Cabinet" is a first class chance to meet them.
On the other hand, the progressive metal parts are not in the forefront, but are lurking in several points to demonstrate the technical aspect of the band.
