Television seems universally infested with that irritating Big Breakfast cheerleading sycophancy, where everyone is very loud and very cheerful and having a lot of fun all of the time.
Television crime fiction is, at present, remorselessly bourgeoisie and whodunit orientated, with ITV’s Midsomer Murders being the nadir of recent small screen crime offerings, in which characters, whatever their station in life, always seem to own extremely spacious and well appointed homes.
Original scripts were then commissioned from television writers but, despite its evocative Cornish setting and a good performance from Jack Shepherd as Wycliffe, the series was weakly produced and scripted, with the smack of routine, conveyor-belt weekly tv series.

One of Wycliffe’s followers, John Hus (http://www.greatsite.com/timeline-english-bible-history/john-hus.html), actively promoted Wycliffe’s ideas: that people should be permitted to read the Bible in their own language, and they should oppose the tyranny of the Roman church that threatened anyone possessing a non-Latin Bible with execution.
Hus was burned at the stake in 1415, with Wycliffe’s manuscript Bibles used as kindling for the fire.
