Wylam was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and moved to Muncie, Ind., at age 12.
Wylam was the driving force in the 1970s behind Delco’s maintenance free lead-acid battery, which remains the industry standard today.
Wylam has been a member of the Dean’s Industry Advisory Council of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI since 1997, while his community activities include serving as a board member for the Madison County United Way, Anderson Symphony Orchestra, and Boy Scouts of America.

 Wylam Locomotive
In 1804 Richard Trevithick was employed by Christopher Blackett, the owner of Wylam Colliery in Northumberland.
The Wylam locomotive was built but weighing five tons, it was too heavy for Blackett's wooden wagonway.
The colliery village of Wylam is situated on the north bank of the Tyne, about eight miles west of Newcastle.

It had been decided to again experiment with a steam locomotive at Wylam Colliery (Newcastle) so the proprietor, Christopher Blackett, contacted Richard Trevithick but he decline to supply a locomotive as he was to busy.
The idea of using a rack and pinion system was looked at, but to convert the 5 miles, then laid as a plate-way, from Wylam Colliery to the coal staithes on the Tyne, to a rack-rail system would have cost £8,000.
Wylam Dilly is preserved at the Royal Scottish Museum.

 Hadrian's Cycleway - Wylam Waggonway
Hadrian's Cycleway follows the course of the Wylam Waggonway between Wylam and Blayney Row and passes George Stephenson's Cottage which is now in the care of the National Trust.
It is thought that the Wylam waggonway was opened in 1748 and was therefore is one of the earliest railways built.
Because the river was too shallow at Wylam the coal had to be taken down river to be loaded into "keels".

The Wylam Waggon Way was built around 1748 to a five foot gauge, and was used to transport coal from Wylam to Lemington for shipment down the River Tyne.
Although George Stephenson, born in Wylam, is well known for the development of steam locomotives his engine was not produced until one year after Hedleys, in 1814.
In 1822 the "Wylam Dilly" was mounted onto a tug and was used on the River Tyne in an attempt to break the Keelman's strike.

I suspect that the origional draft was drawn larger with photographic reduction for publication planned and the title block written for the publication.
One warning: Some of Wylam's drawings are very incorrect, and, IIRC, his Brisfit drawings are the worst (per the Air Age book of his drawings).

Be careful with WYLAM 3-views, I have several in my collection and I found most of them have errors.
I can't help you on William Wylam's work, but I did purchase the Paul Matt's CD collection of 3 views and pictures, and it is an awsome information for any aviation buff to have in his/her arsenal, lots of good 3 views to build a good scale model from.
Hey Fred, rumour was that Wylam purposely changed the tail of the B-29 drawing because he kept getting into trouble for producing "accurate" drawings of, at the time, secret aircraft.
