Wynoochee River: Lower Main Stem | Washington Water Trails
Preview: The Wynoochee River flows south out of Olympic National Park, but a major dam that makes this river runnable throughout the year (though it may get a bit lean in late summer and early fall) creates a barrier between the pristine and the merely scenic.
Several segments of the upper river are run by kayakers, and canoeists run a 19-mile segment above this lower 16-mile stretch, which is broken by a diversion structure near RM 8.
It is a pool-and-riffle river with plenty of gravel bars and fine views of low, timbered hills.

Wynoochee River: Winter steelhead, coho salmon, and resident and sea-run cutthroat are available.
The river is getting very low for drifting but that also means you can walk farther up and down to the holes from bank access spots, all in all, this looks to be a better year for steelhead than past seasons, and it usually even gets better in August.
As the river drops into its summer flows, the water becomes crystal clear with many of the holes becoming almost stagnant with the lack of water volume.

American Whitewater - Wynoochee River (WA) Access Update
Washington’s Wynoochee River is a scenic run that flows through the Olympic National Forest and Simpson Resource Company lands.
One road that is important for river access, but that the Forest Service recommended for closure, was Forest Road 2200-020, a short spur road providing put-in access for day trips on the Wynoochee Gorge and a take-out for those who wish to run the easier section upstream.
First, the road is rated high aquatic risk due to the proximity and connections with the river and the riparian area, and the existence of a ford across a tributary stream near the river.
