Burnie Airport, located in Wynyard, is the north-west coast's major airport, with regular flights to Melbourne and sightseeing flights over the west coast.
To the west of Wynyard is the blue water and white sands of Boat Harbour Beach, and an hours drive from Wynyard is the town of Stanley.
Wynyard is also a good staging point for travel to Strahan and the west coast (2:15 away) and Cradle Mountain (1:20).

At Wynyard, Tasmania, 65 ex-servicemen marched at dawn to the Wynyard War Memorial where they held a simple service.
Afterwards they gathered to remember and reminisce about some of the 136 servicemen of Wynyard and district whose names were recorded on the memorial.
Many other stories of Wynyard families at war were told at that Dawn Service where a reporter from the local paper happened to be present to write them down.

The Wynyard Angling Club was reformed in 1999 by a couple of locals who felt there was a need to have a club in our community once again.
There was a club in Wynyard but folded in the early 1960's due to lack of membership.
Times have changed and since the club was re-formed by a handful of dedicated local fishermen and their famlies it has now grown into a very family orientated club.

Wynyard Caravan Park is a nice place located just over a kilometre from the airport.
The main feature is that it is a neat place to get accomodation, which could also be used as a base to visiting different destinations.
The service is good but the prices are even better, Wynyard wont break the budget.
