	George Wythe, Signer of Declaration of Independence
		George Wythe was also a delegate at the Constitutional Convention in 1787, at which the U.S. Constitution was adopted and the United States of America was officially formed.
		Wythe was born in 1726, the second of three children, on his father's plantation on the Back River in Elizabeth City County, Va., within the confines of present Hampton.
		Wythe was one of the first to express the concept of separate nationhood for the Colonies within the British Empire.

		Wythe County was founded in 1790, from Montgomery County, which was founded from Fincastle County in 1776.
		Wythe County was settled early in the history of our country, primarily because of the good access to water (the New River and many creeks).
		In the last century, Wythe County was a mineral water spa mountain resort location where people from the hot, humid areas such as Charleston, South Carolina and New Orleans, Louisiana came for the summer to escape malaria and typhoid fever outbreaks.

		Wythe was reared by his mother, Margaret Walker Wythe, and probably received his early education from her.
		An early opponent of the Stamp Act, Wythe was appointed to the Committee of Petition and Remonstrance in 1764 and drafted the remonstrance to the House of Commons that protested against the tax.
		Wythe was appointed to William and Mary's board in 1768 and was elected Williamsburg's mayor December 1 of that year.
