The X68000 was a popular personal computer in Japan, though it's entirely unknown in America.
While there is an Original mode which is exactly the same as the X68000 game (even letting you choose from the three MIDI sound modules, for three different soundtracks), the main draw is the Arrange mode.
Two CG scenes show the intro and ending, though they're pretty crappy - the originaly X68000 intro is much better, and the video of Castlevania crumbling at the end is near-pathetic.

The first model was released in 1987, with a 10 MHz Motorola 68000 CPU, 1 MB of RAM and no hard drive; the last model was released in 1993 with a 25 MHz Motorola 68030 CPU, 4 MB of RAM and optional 80 MB SCSI hard drive.

X68000 Emulator PPC 0.00b22, Carbonized for Mac OS X. X68000 Emulator PPC is currently the only X68000 emulator available for the Macintosh.
Also note that the application is compressed in LZH format, which is quite uncommon for most Macintosh programs, but Stuffit Expander seems capable of handling it; you may need to expand the files multiple times to get the program to work, however.

When i first used an emulator for the X68000 back in the late 90s, and saw such perfect ported classics as Mat Mania, Afterburner, Bubble Bobble, Galaga 88, Street Fighter 2, etc. I was completely floored.
I had always been impressed with the Amiga home ports of games, but the X68000 even outdid the Amiga.

All of the adventure elements were ditched, with only a handful of cutscenes surviving, but the actual shooting segments have been much improved.
The X68000 is a far more powerful computer than the PC88 ever was, so the graphics look and move much better, easily matching the quality of many 16-bit home shooters (and even some arcade ones.) You still have the vulcan cannon and missiles, so it now feels a lot like Darius.
Even though the most innovative part of the game was trashed, the X68000 version is ultimately a better experience - even though there's really nothing really special about it, at least it's a solid game.

 X68000 - Scenyx Entertainment Community
One of the many kool aspects of having emu's on the XBOX is that you don't have to set up all your directories, make sure your files are in the right spot, and your ini files conform, then system configuration on top of all that.
The X68000 was never in English, so setting it up is some what of a pain in the butt, having it on the XBOX should make a world of difference, and perhaps draw a lot more interest in that case.
Here is a link to the current emus for the PC, looks like some source is available so you never know we may end up with a port some day.

Been keen on x68000 emulation for a while now, but getting myself a system seems near out of the question, so ive been turning my attentions to the Marty / II system.
I wish that Hudson and NEC had used an upgraded X68000 as the basis for the PC Engine 2 instead of the 8-Bit SuperGrafx which was only a mildly upgraded version of the original PC Engine.
I've seen side-by-side pics of the X68000 versions of Strider and GNG and they are literally PIXEL PERFECT (a remarkable feat back in the late 1980's/early 1990's).
