XFrames Application for Composing Documents to Replace HTML Frames.
XFrames is an XML application which "addresses the usability, search, and security problems associated with HTML frames." The specification "defines a separate XML application (not a part of XHTML per se) that allows functionality similar to HTML Frames, but with fewer usability problems, principally by making the content of the frameset visible in its URI.
The collection of frames in an XFrames document is referred to as a frameset.

XFrames is an XML application for composing documents together, replacing HTML Frames.
First off, and XFrames document is like the “old” HTML frames document; a specification for composing several documents, potentially of different types, together in a view.
The difference with XFrames is the fact that doing this changes the URI associated with the frameset, by adding or replacing an association between the frame and the URI for the frame document; this would normally be visible to the user.

 XFrames
An XFrames document is a specification for composing several documents, potentially of different types, together in a view.
It may be used as a style sheet selector, a target anchor for hypertext links or as a means to reference a particular element for general purpose processing by user agents.
This specification does not require conformant XFrames user agents to accept or refuse any particular type of document for assignment to a frame, though it must accept at least one.

NOTE: XFrames is a part of a working draft and is still under development of this writing.
An XFrames document is refrenced by the URI of the document in the form of “http://www.yourwebsitehere.com/test.frm#frames(id1=uri1,id2=uri2,…).
The frame with ‘id=c’ is defaulted to the URI and thus populated with main.xml (or the main xml document specified in the head of the XFrame document).

A browser that understands XFrames would then associate the content of each frame to the appropriate URI.
When the user clicks a link and changes the content of an individual frame, the overall URI of the page changes, so it always represents the actual content the user is looking at, and bookmarks and the back button provide accurate content.

It might make perfect sense to define something via "style" attribute if it occurs only once -- this might affect images, but also frames.
If you propose to define the width and height measure of frames introducing a "class" for each of them, I claim that this is bad practice.
(And not being allowed to use "style" here means you're forced to this practice.) -- I didn't want to start a discussion about the current XFrames WD, and I didn't want to judge /anything/ concerning XFrames in general -- the only thing I wanted is to make two remarks :) Jens.
