XIII for PC Review - PC XIII Review
XIII is a cel-shaded first-person shooter based on a long-running French comic book of the same name.
XIII, or "Thirteen," is both the name of the game and the name of the character you'll play as, though there's definitely some question about your character's identity.
XIII has a unique and potentially interesting premise, and some will certainly want to drag their way through the single-player campaign just to watch the story unfold, but the game doesn't really differentiate itself from the wide array of other first-person shooters on the market.

XIII uses the presidential backing to track down Kim Rowland, and learns she is General Carrington's daughter.
After transmitting this information to XIII, they become convinced that Wally Sheridan was, in fact, Number I. After trying to release Kelly Rowland from an island where he believes she is sequestrated, XIII and Jones, along with Kim, are caught by the Mongoose who traps them on a yacht, and explodes it.
XIII's belief in his identity is shattered: he learns that El Cascador was known as "Kelly Brian", and possibly an IRA operative.

XIII is certainly not a huge epic such as Halo or Zelda, there’s no lengthy exploration or enormous battles, just plenty of bloody entertaining gameplay.
XIII also has a ‘sixth sense’ which means that whenever an enemy is close at hand you’ll know about it, making getting around behind them and walloping them with a chair so much easier.
XIII multiplayer is nothing on Halo or Counterstrike, but for those who finish or tire of the main game, it’s a pleasant and solid enough experience, and bots are something that a number of other console shooters don’t offer, even today.

XIII is another title to offer a celebrity soundtrack with David Duchovny, Adam West and Eve lending their voices to the game; the celebrities’ inclusion is somewhat surprising as I do not find them to be a major selling point.
XIII is not that difficult an experience, infuriating at times but not engaging, and should take an average gamer between six and twelve hours to complete on the default setting.

While XIII may not be in the same league as Zelda in the graphics department, it does ooze with a style that fits the game to a tee.

That game, XIII ("thirteen"), is the latest first-person shooter from Ubisoft, and while it's not as interesting as you might expect and doesn't offer much beyond generic FPS fare, it's still a decent enough shooter in the end.
For a videogame, XIII's introductory scenes are presented in a fairly original style, and there are several cutscenes that help push things along both between and during missions.
There are sections where enemies appear aware of their surroundings and won't attack until they spot you, but more often, you feel like you're just going through the motions, shooting enemies that jump out at some prescripted moment and run straight into your gunfire.

One thing that gets to the nerves quick tho is that the game is VERY centered around where XIII is looking, you must be looking directly at the WOOD of the door to open it, this makes opening bar-doors and dooors with lots of windows very annoying which drops the rating down a bit.

 IMG Review: XIII
Of greater note are the comic book windows that appear on screen whenever a headshot is achieved or when the main character is watching a plot point from a hiding spot or hiding from patrolling guards.
It would be nice to say they don’t have an effect on performance, but rendering two, three and sometimes four of these little blighters as well as the main screen is sometimes too much and causes the game to slow to a crawl for a split second.
On the Mac these comic book windows are rendered at a higher resolution than on the PC and console versions, and while that definitely improves their appearance it is a questionable benefit.
