		LE XIIIe arrondissement est né le 1 er Janvier 1860, en application de la loi du 16 Juin 1859, qui a décidé d'annexer à Paris tous les territoires compris entre la barrière des fermiers généraux et les fortifications construites sous Louis-Philippe et de diviser la capitale en vingt arrondissements et quatre vingts quartiers.
		Cet arrondissement, dit des Gobelins, composé des quartiers de la Salpétrière, de la Gare, de la maison Blanche et de Croulebarbe, a été constitué par une fraction de l'ancien XIIe arrondissement et des territoires pris aux communes d'Ivry et de Gentilly.
		Ce secteur du XIIIe arrondissement a beaucoup changé d'aspect ces vingt dernières années.
