The XIT Ranch ceased operations in 1912 but it remained alive in the memories of hundreds of cowboys who had worked on the legendary ranch.
Forty years later, the XIT Museum was established at Dalhart, Texas to keep alive the memory of the biggest thing that ever exsisted in Texas.

The ranch started operations in 1885 and at its peak averaged handling 150,000 head of cattle within its 1,500 miles (2,400 km) of fencing.
The cattle on the ranch were constantly plagued by cattle rustlers and predators, especially wolves.
