Where Namespaces are not needed for disambiguation — where an XML document isn’t meant to be published to the web for general use — avoiding Namespaces (or at least, using them sparsely) removes a huge amount of complexity from XML development, authoring, and information management.

XQuery by the Book - an Implementation Based on Rigid Formal Semantics
For this reason, the XQuery specification is accompanied by a rigid formal semantics [ DF02 ], which explicates both, the static and the dynamic semantics of the surface language, and a data model specification [ FM02 ], which gives a detailed account of the constructors and methods for operating on XML Schema validated documents.
This paper has introduced IPSI-XQ, an implementation of XQuery strongly aligned with XQuery's formal specification.

In EML 2.0, it is synonymous with "unitless" and represents the case in which units cannot be associated with an attribute for some reason, despite the proper classification of that attribute as interval or ratio.

Cover Pages: Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
A complete SOA run-time specification in a XML form is generated from the collaborative process model by explicitly defining services, their inputs, their outputs and their static and dynamic choreography.
SOA does not have a standardized, reference model yet; however, implementations share the main concepts of services, service descriptions, advertising and discovery, the specification of an associated data model, and the use of a service contract.
For the purposes of this paper, SOA is defined by abstracting the common concepts and elements from architectures and standards that claim to be service oriented.

Semantic Web activity, led by the World Wide Web Consortium [W3C], builds upon existing standards (e.g., [URI], [Unicode], [XML]) and conventions of practice (e.g., the use of namespaces in programming languages) to define the syntax and semantics of data structures for Web applications.
The Web Ontology Language [OWL] extends RDFS with the means of representing properties of properties (transitivity, symmetry, inverse, functions, local domain and range restrictions, cardinality, specification of a set), relations between resources (equivalence or identity, disjointness or difference), and operations on sets (union, intersection, complement) to support logical inference.

Normal Form Conventions for XML Representations of Structured Data
I hope the enumeration of Normal Forms presented here may help others in redressing this deficit: we already have some evidence [KrupnikovThompson01] that it yields practical benefits in supporting an XML-Schema-based approach to the declarative specification of the relation between XML document types and the application data they encode.
By the concrete use, when talking about a normal form for a particular dataset, that is a particular collection of individuals, atoms, types and relations, I mean a representation or encoding in XML of that dataset.
In practice specifying this from the perspective of the XML, in a way which is manifestly invertable, seems to work well, and it is this approach which is followed below.
