		XPde does not unlock the power of GNU/Linux, it merely hides the powerfull Unix philosophy under an underperforming copycat interface that doesn't seem to tap into the GNU/Linux system at all, just running on top of it.
		Luckilly, XPde is not included in any major Distribution, so switchers will most likely be exposed to either the powerfull GNOME or KDE.
		Conclusion: XPde is worthless, doesn't matter the way you think about it, a XP theme for KDE is a much better idea if you like the look, and a lot less effort.

		Useage of ram in XPDE is actually pretty low, and it seems like the borland compiler is actually pretty good, so the Xpde binarys are really fast, so the desktop so far is very responsive.
		I am a linux user for months now and I think in its current form I will not use XPde but dont get me worng I think the idea of creatinga DE that is familiar in a windoze user point of view is great.

	Automatic XPDE in Mandrake 9.1 LTSP
		Of course, I will not run any script when creating new users, so I made the system set up their setup script automagically for them IF they choose to enter XPDE for the first time!
		Save, and log in with your favourite display manager, and thats it, every time a new user is created, he will NOT have.xpde in his home, directory but once he logs in for the first time, everything will be perfectly well set up 8)
		Btw, I have yet to figure out how to disable XPDEs "turn off" button, so that it only says "log off" and just get the user back to GDM login screen as it should.

		I have debian installed on my xbox with kde and kdm manager so this is how i did it on my system.
		I had kdm installed and when i tried doing startx it said device in use at device0 or some shit then i figured that i needed to kill kdm so it wouldnt be in use hehe so this is what u need to do if you have kdm installed:
		right now this is basically a replacement for x window system which is good because XPde still has some bugs such as lauching programs only from run command and such and my kde still boots up fine when i start my xbox and if i want XPde i just startx.

		As far as I can tell, XPDE is a just-for-fun thing, and it isn't really a functional desktop environment.
		Nevertheless, I see it asked for enough on the Ubuntu Forums that I figured I might as well help people install it.
		If you use the installation script, try out XPDE, and finally realize it's not a functional environment, just copy and paste these two commands into the terminal to remove it:

	XPDE
		Never heard of XPDE, so I looked it up and read their web site FAQ.
		You can add XPDE to any distro from what I understand, but I agree wih you that it's probably not that useful, especially if it has link to applications that have no Linux equivalent like System Restore and the Defragmenter.
		If anybody on this forum has tried XPDE, I'd be interested in your thoughts.

		However, the xpde "window manager" is not in the repositories (yet).

		As I understand this release includes the latest version of xpde (0.5.1) So downloading a newer version of barnix (DebXPde v1.0.0) won't help me then as the previous had already the newest xpde version?
		I was also wondering: Is there any tool like xpde which gives me a Win98 look (windows classic) because I like the classic look better.
		One more thing: I really appreciate the job you're doing, but something that is not working is of little use to me, especially as a linux newbie.

		XPDE is an open-source project to offer a WinXP-like window manager such as KDE or Gnome.
		I think it's pretty interesting although I prefer KDE, and I don't like to "clone".
