Xpilot is of course GPL so its free for everyone to look at, and change as they wish.
My view was that there were several features in Xpilot that were badly designed and implemented, were not in wide use, and could thus be removed or changed (instead of spending time to keep them working exactly the same way when other parts of the code changed).
Their main advantage is that to compile the other Xpilot sources you have to get a C build environment working anyway, so the map editor probably works too.

The other of these two, called xpilots, takes care of for instance calculating the positions of all the moving objects and dataflow between different clients.

I'm not much of an xpilot hacker, but I have made a start at some patches, and hope to add to these over time.
The basic concept is borrowed from U's /set patch, which allows the operator of a server to change server parameters via the talk-window.
Once the messages have been forwarded, they are automatically deleted from the xpilot mailbox.

The reason this happens is that you have pressed some key and then released it in such a way that the xpilot client haven't received the release event.
This bug has been fixed in XPilot NG cvs ; XPilot NG 4.7.0 will have a bugfixed client.
The easiest way to see if this is the problem is to set the texturedWalls option to false in the configuration file (.xpilotrc) and then try to connect to the server.
