Lastly, Adium X v0.7 came out with some great new features - I'm very partial to the new contact list formatting features and have mine all pimped out, but there's a bunch of great stuff in there so be sure to dig through the changelogs and look at what's new.

NewsForge Must-have applications for the open source Mac desktop
The great thing about OS X is that all these things are available, but there's a steep learning curve for many, and a big investment in time is needed to try everything out.
The 'it just works' of Apple's Mac OS X was very tempting, but I didn't want to be without the open source applications I had come to know and love.
I find OS X to be a great combination of professional, and easy to use apps from Apple like iPhoto, iTunes, Motion, etc.; and the Open Source stuff I can use for my own projects.

 jIRCii 07.13.05 - MacUpdate
X-chat Aqua has a laggy interface, other clients are missing features like auto-reconnect or other basic features.
It handles multiple servers, rooms, chats, files, and more, in an interface that's easy to pick up (although it doesn't hold your hand like some other mac IRC clients, which can be good or bad depending on your experience level).
jIRCii is a powerful Mac OS X Internet Relay Chat client.

 Mitch Kapor's Weblog: Switch!
In OS X, the default behavior if you just press a particular function key is to do something like raise or lower the speaker volume, not pass the key through to the app which registered the event.
I am only mentioning it because I think this was one of the lacking software for Mac OS X. Posted by: Eddy Young at August 29, 2003 12:48 AM Another thing you might want to do is set up an IMAP server on your Mac and store all your mailboxes there.
The main problem I foresee with switching to OS X is finding a free/open source email client for OS X that I like.

 XChat 1.0 - VersionTracker
There is already a program called XChat, and it's a well-known IRC client (the Mac OS X version is called X-Chat Aqua).
I guess this is nice, but it seems to just do what iChat's Rendezvous functionality does, and that doesn't even require OS X Server.

i am (for os x) a big fan of colloquy its very feature heavy, but it isnt that hard to lean to use.

I did find X-Chat Aqua, which is an Aqua port of X-Chat that runs natively on the Mac.
After playing with the Macs, and chatting with the Apple employees, I left the store feeling like I had found my next computer.
I guess that is one of the good things about Mac OS X. They _know_ what hardware the OS is going to run on, so it is already optimized for that hardware.

I tried X-Chat Aqua, it's nice but it seems unstable and development is a bit slow for my tastes.
If you're plugged in and you have the battery in too, i believe OS X will let your battery get down to 95%, then it will trickle-charge it too 100%.
