The cancellation of the series was predicted by many fans because the final season of the X-men had a noticable drop in the quality of the animation and storylines.
X-Men was one of the longest-lasting series on Fox Kids, with its final new episode airing in late 1997, after five complete seasons.
Colossus, Nightcrawler, Forge, Banshee, Iceman, Archangel, Psylocke, and Bishop, who were also X-Men members in the early '90s comics, all guest starred in at least one episode of the cartoon, though they did not currently live at the X-Mansion.

Fans of the X-Men animated series or fans of Wolverine will love this disc, the story is good without being over the top and the bonus episode, X-Men: The Final Decision is worth the price of the disc all by itself in my opinion.
Recently Buena Vista Home Entertainment and Marvel have joined up to bring X fans a series of one shot animated specials focusing on some of the more popular team members including Rouge, Storm, Cyclops and in this case, Wolverine.
After a few seasons a new series or one shot video will be released, than back to the series, kind of confusing when you look at all the X-Men video's that are on the market and I'm not even counting bootlegs and foreign imports.

Although it seems many kids really enjoy and like the series, it should remain a fact that X-Men Evolution is barely an adaptation of the actual X-Men universe (comics and the original animated series).
The stories in this series are all fresh, whereas the stories in the Fox series were just retreads of stories from the comics, where you knew the end result without watching the cartoon (occassionally there would be slight variations but not many).
Beautiful animation - that's on a par with, and surpasses a lot of, the current wave of Japanese anime - finishes off the whole package - I swear, this is the only cartoon I have ever seen where *dancing* has been animated so well.

I think the individual series dont work because the xmen have such a strong family dynamic that they have become their own supporting cast and you cant see them outside of those books.
Wolverine, on the other hand, has a long-running solo series, miniseries that seem to be moderately successful, and was the main character in two very profitable films.
