how do you pronounce these words? | Antimoon Forum
I would recommend you get familiar with XSAMPA as compared to antimoon's system, as XSAMPA is most widely used on this forum, and is very widespread in other places.
XSAMPA is basically IPA but written with normal keyboard characters so everyone can read and write them.
My XSAMPA pronunciations of those words (the phonemic transcriptions on the left will be easier to understand at first, but the ones on the right are the more specific transcriptions):

It would also help create less confusion, as [a:] in Tom's system is the same as [A] in XSAMPA, which is more widely recognized and also doesn't imply any difference in vowel length (same with [i] and [i:] on Tom's system compared to XSAMPA [i] and [I]).
While XSAMPA may not always be as esthetically pleasing as standard IPA, it really does a pretty good job of making the best of standard ASCII characters.
Like a lot of people, when I have to use XSAMPA I generally follow XSAMPA convention except I use normal IPA [æ] instead of XSAMPA [{], because [æ] isn't that hard for me to make (alt 145 on Windows, at least) and shows up on most (if not all) computers.

As mentioned earlier there are a number of coding schemes for phonetic or phonological units available.
Probably the most universal and widely spread coding is the SAM Phonetic Alphabet (SAMPA and XSAMPA) as defined by Wells
SAMPA and XSAMPA provide phonological codings in 7 Bit ASCII for a large number of European and other languages.

Trily84, I wanted to provide you with a link about it, but apparently I'm not allowed to do it.
So basically, XSAMPA is just like IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet), only it uses characters that can easily be typed with any keyboard, and therefore it doesn't take any special fonts to display it properly.
I'd really like to post a link about it for you though.
