		Xanadu is a 1980 musical/romance film directed by Robert Greenwald.
		Xanadu is the name of the Chinese province where Khan establishes his pleasure garden in the poem.
		Xanadu contains the first known appearance in the popular media of what later became known as the "Flock of Seagulls haircut." The hairdo is sported by drummer Prairie Prince of the Tubes during their performance of the song "Dancin'" in the film.

		Xanadu is often labelled a remake of the 1947 Rita Hayworth vehicle "Down to Earth".
		The concept for the film Xanadu came from a couple of different sources: Greek mythology (Zeus and the nine muses), and a poem by poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge which tells of a magical, mythical land.
		Key scenes of the film were filmed at locally-revered LA landmarks such as Paradise Park (the park scene where Kira first "bumps" into Sunny), the Main Street district in Santa Monica (the van riding scene), Malibu Pier in Malibu and Venice Beach.

		Xanadu, in the words of the faux newsreel that gives a brief history of Kane's life, is the "costliest monument of a man to himself." Any resemblance to The Ranch, William Randolph Hearst's real-life San Simeon abode, is not coincidental.
		Within moments of the film's eerie, visually-stunning opening, Kane is dead, uttering the word "Rosebud" as he hunches over.

		Xanadu was released in DVD in the US in July 1999, and at the time was quite a revelation.
		It wasn’t without its problems, but those were due to the material that was at hand; the many optical effects shots in the film display dramatically increased grain and a fair bit of film damage as well, something that is an unfortunate by-product of the limited technology that was available when the movie was made.
		Universal had obviously vaulted the film’s negatives very carefully and had done a marvellous new video transfer of the film for DVD, but not surprisingly stopped short of spending big dollars on digitally cleaning up the opticals.
